Keep On Strummin’

At this point, so early in his career, if Rusty wants to be a rock star, then he’d better spend every waking moment playing the guitar.

Morning…

Noon…

And night…

When he’s not going to work, of course.

To keep myself amused, I finally kept my ages-old promise to build them a rooftop deck. That view!

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

I had a terrible time getting Mort and Henry to enjoy it, though. Someone’s always having to go potty.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Or take a shower.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Finally, a rare moment of peace together!

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Oops, now Mort wants to make out, but Henry is tired.

OLD PEOPLE ARE SO FRUSTRATING.

New Day, New Life!

Rusty’s birthday dawned quietly. Before everyone woke up, I rearranged the garden a little.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

How did we end up with all these lime trees? I don’t know, but I wanted them out of the way of the potatoes and onions.

A nice little scenic shot from the other side of the hill.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Then it was birthday time!

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Inspired by the hairdo he aged into, I gave Young Adult Rusty kind of a rockabilly/Thin White Duke sort of look.
(Except without all the cocaine and pro-fascist rantings.)

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

I love the way he’s thinking about himself!

Obviously the first thing he wanted to do was… go play the guitar!

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

He’s also signed up for the Music career. And it’s on to rock stardom, for sure!

The Late Teens

Rusty became practically compulsive about the guitar. Whenever he wasn’t playing it, he was wishing that he could play it.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Meanwhile with Rusty out of the house more and more often, Mort and Henry have been super saccharine sweet. Here, Mort was interrupted in gardening by Henry, who came all the way from the far side of the second floor of the house just in order to “Hold hands with Mort.”

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Awww.

Despite being a rock star in training, Rusty still did his homework every night.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Stay in school, kids!

On his last night as a teen, Rusty played in the central park downtown.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Then he had a nice relaxing bubble bath.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

I like to think he spent his bath contemplating the future, and what it would bring. But probably he was just wondering how that candle managed to balance on the edge of the tub like that.

Birthday Trauma

The day started well enough. Hank and Rusty sat down to work on Rusty’s homework. (Directly in front of the front door. Not sure why.)

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

But later that night, I’m sad to say, it was time for Hank to grow up! The game gave him an even uglier outfit than he had before. But I am pleased that it did not correct his Sim-pattern baldness.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

I’m even sadder to report that the first thing Hank did was pee his pants in the kitchen.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

I made Carissa mop it up.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Later, Hank consoled himself with a bit of Underpants Gardening.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Nothing cheers you up like gardening in your underpants!

Wanted (Waaaanteeeeed) Dead or Uh-Live!

I completed Groundhog Day by buying another top-of-the-line microwave. First Carissa lamented the squishy humans’ habit of reproducing via a parasitic growth.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Then they fell in love all over again!

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Meanwhile I’ve sent darling Rusty to playing the guitar. With an outfit like that, OF COURSE he has to become a rock star!

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

The next day, I realized around noon that naughty Rusty had skipped school. At least he did his homework without prompting.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

How he can concentrate with that wallpaper shouting at the dinner table, I’ll never know.

Groundhog Day, Sims-Style

Man, I love that movie!

After the crash last time, the clock was reset back to before Mort’s birthday. This time I let Henry sleep in, instead of waking him up early to clean house for the party.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

I was able to invite Willie and Tyler Spline again. That’s Willie in the bright green pants!

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Mort aged into an outfit that was different, but still ugly.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Henry missed the cake-cutting. He was busy peeing his pants… in the bathroom.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Downstairs, I had Rusty blow out the candles and grow up, too.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

“Plaid pants! ROCK ON!”

Well that outfit clearly wouldn’t do. I chose something better.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

AW YEAH! You can’t really tell, but those are snakeskin cowboy boots. (I mean, what else would you wear with super-tight high-waisted acid wash stretch jeans?)

Just Another Day In Sunset Valley!

Carissa started talking to the microwave.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Then she fell madly in love. Cold, dead eyes and all.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Henry did a bit of gardening.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

While Mort played that stupid yard game.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Later that day, we threw a birthday party for Mort. Tyler Spline’s ghost showed up! Here, Rusty is introducing himself to his Great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

There’s no way Tyler’s ghost should still be around. Hm, that’s a glitch. Not a good sign.

Willie Spline also showed up! Willie is from the other branch of the family, the one that resulted when the four non-heirs got kicked out of the house.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

As you can see, he inherited Delphine’s hair!

Then Mort blew out his candles and aged into this super fabulous outfit.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

I had him phone his job and retire. The game asked me to confirm his retirement, and noted that his pension would be -§1,654.235 per day. Negative! Per day!

This intrigued me, so I clicked OK. And then the game crashed, and it was all lost.

Le sigh.

Create A Pattern? Happy To!

I spent most of yesterday’s budgeted Sims time screwing around with the new Create A Pattern tool. First I made a big ugly mish-mash.

This is a screenshot of the Paranormal Memento, combined with a leopard spot pattern, a rubber duckie, and a skull and crossbones.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Then I created this pattern using a funny picture of my cat.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Awesome, right?!

Then I bought them a new car and gave it a marbled pattern. You know; to make it classier.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

And I finished up by taking Mimsical’s suggestion and adding some plants along the back wall of the house.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Oh, and then I switched back into gameplay mode and Rusty grew up into a little boy!

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

OKAY THAT’S COOL WHATEVER NOW WHAT ELSE CAN I USE TO MAKE THEM SOME WALLPAPER?

Beyond The Pale

I decided to make good on my promise, and put a little brick border around Henry’s courtyard garden. Then I put a shrubbery border around that.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Better, but it still lacks zazz. I’m seriously thinking about buying some Home & Garden-style magazines for inspiration.

Mort has now gone 2 career levels past Ghost Hunter level 10. I’m as bored with this as the homeowner (center) is.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

But I can’t stop, because it seems that every time you fill up the Experience bar, the mayor throws you a party!

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

This time Mort received the “Paranormal Memento.”

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

The fog really, you know, fogs around! Other than that it just… sits there. But hey! Active fog!

Just Another Day in Sunset Valley

I decided I wanted to reprogram Carissa, the SimBot, so I sent her to take a shower. When she came out of the shower, she shorted out.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Henry was then able to reprogram her. (I gave her the Neat and Natural Chef traits to make her more useful). But when he tried to repair her, things went badly.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Luckily he was able to phone a repair technician for Carissa, and shower the scorch marks off himself.

Later that day, he did a bit of gardening.

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

Looking at that picture, I feel like I should put a decorative border around the garden. What can I say? Landscaping was never my strong suit.

Speaking of suits!

The Splines: A Sims 3 Blog

I noticed today that Rusty’s pajamas have a little fluffy bunny tail!
